Winter Livestock auction report

The Winter Livestock auction, Dodge City, Kansas, reported receipts of 1,234 head n Aug. 22, compared to 1,294 head last week and 2,250 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Dodge City, Kansas.

Compared to a week ago, there were very few offerings on feeder steers and heifers. With limited comparable weights, the feeder steers weighing 800 to 900 pounds were steady to $2 lower. The feeder heifers from 650 to 700 pounds were selling $1 to $2 lower. The steer and heifer calves were decent offerings with a slightly lower undertone on comparable weights. The demand was low to moderate. The quality was average. The slaughter cow offerings were selling $3 to $4 lower on few offerings. The slaughter bulls were steady to firm. The feeder supply was 42% steers and 58% was heifers, with 65% over 600 pounds.
