4-H challenges members to 30 days of activities

Get up, get out and go do.

4-H is encouraging its members to engage in simple skills-building activities every day throughout the month of September. The 30 Days of Doing challenge includes activities in agriculture, STEM, community service and healthy living that are meant to help youth gain the skills needed to be successful in life through hands-on learning, while having fun at the same time.

“Arkansas 4-H is excited to participate in the 30 Days of Doing Campaign,” Priscella Thomas-Scott, 4-H events coordinator for the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. “Our program encourages youth to pursue their passions through the “learn by doing” approach. This campaign is a great way to highlight the amazing work that 4-Hers are doing in the state.”

The 4-H 30 Days of Doing calendar suggests activities including building a birdfeeder and making cards to deliver to a senior citizens’ home. You can get a copy of the calendar on the national 4-H website, 4-h.org/inspire-kids-to-do/.

The challenge also includes a photo contest starting September 1. Submit a photo of your 4-Her participating in the challenge and get a chance to win a $10,000 scholarship for your child and your state program could also receive $10,000.

The 30 Days of Doing challenge is a part of the 4-H Grows campaign that engages youths in activities that build characteristics like confidence, responsibility, independence and compassion to build true leaders. The campaign empowers youth and gives them real opportunities to lead.

4-H is a youth development program operated by the University of Arkansas System Division of Agriculture. The program teaches participants life skills through the “learn by doing” model. Program participants gain knowledge through non-formal, science-based, experiential education activities.
