Amarillo cattle sale report
The Amarillo Livestock Auction reported 495 head selling on Aug. 28, compared to 466 a week ago and 412 a year ago, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News, Amarillo Texas.
Compared to a week ago, the feeder steers and heifers were selling steady on a limited test. Trade activity was slow to moderate with moderate to good demand. The most recent Cattle on Feed report was bearish on placements but CME cattle futures closed in the green. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $2 higher. The slaughter cows and bulls made up 10% of the sale stock, 1% were replacements and 89% were feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 44% steers and bulls 56% was heifers. Nearly 54% of the run weighed over 600 pounds. There will be no sale on Labor Day and the next regularly scheduled sale will be Sept. 10.
Steers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 185.00 to 188.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 165.50 to 174.00; few 521 lbs., 158.00; 700 to 800 lb. calves 134.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 409 lbs., 179.00; 500 to 600 lbs., 148.00 to 149.00; few 728 lbs., 140.00. Medium and large frame 2, 650 to 700 lbs., 135.00 to 138.00. Holstein steers large frame, 3 lot 591 lbs., 55.00.
Feeder bulls: Medium and large frame 1, few 330 lbs., 181.00; 400 to 500 lbs., 150.00 to 171.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 500 to 600 lbs., 131.00 to 132.00; lot 719 lbs., 120.00.
Heifers: Medium and large frame 1, 300 to 400 lbs., 152.00 to 179.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 135.00 to 144.00; 600 to 650 lb calves 130.00 to 134.00; few 768 lbs., full 126.00. Medium and large frame 1 to 2, few 258 lbs., 158.00; few 635 lb calves 129.00; load 740 lbs., 139.85.
Slaughter cows: Breaking, 75 to 80%, 1200 to 1500 lbs., 52.50; boning 80 to 85%, 1000 to 1300 lbs., avg. 51.00; lean 85 to 90%, 800 to 1200 lbs. avg. 52.00 to 55.00.
Slaughter bulls: Yield grade 1 to 2, 2145 lbs., 82.50.
Cow/calf pairs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, young individual 700 lbs., with 150 lb. calf, 860.00; short and solid mouth, 1200 lbs., with 150 to 200 lb. calves, 960.00 per pair.
