Ozark Regional cattle sale report

The Ozark Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,004 head selling on Aug. 28, compared to 3,134 head a week ago and 2,551 head a year ago, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to a week ago, with the exception of three weight calves trading $5 higher, the bulk of the steer calves were trading $3 to $6 lower while heifer calves were selling steady to $2 lower. Lightly tested yearling steers and heifers were trading $3 to $5 higher. The supply was moderate with a good demand early that moderated throughout the day. The USDA’s Cattle on Feed report released a week ago reported inventories and marketings were 5% higher than a year ago with placements 8% higher. The bearish placement numbers were offset by beef exports numbers and positive reports from trade negotiations. The feeder cattle supply included 87% steers, 0% dairy steers, 11% heifers and 2% bulls. Feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 7%.
