Newell sheep sales report

The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, Newell, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,847 head selling on Aug. 30, compared to 1,821 head a week ago and 3,320 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, the price trend for feeder lambs was $6 to $11 higher. Slaughter ewes were selling steady to $2 higher. Feeder lambs made up 95% of the moderate market activity. Demand for feeder lambs was good.

Slaughter ewes: Good 2 to 3, 165 to 175 lbs., 53.00 to 58.50 (56.57). Good 3 to 4, 23 head, 228 lbs., 47.00. Utility 1 to 2, 25 head, 154 lbs., 45.00. Cull 1, 11 head, 135 lbs., 31.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 66 to 68 lbs., 154.00 to 160.00 (159.53); 73 to 79 lbs., 143.00 to 148.00 (146.62); 81 to 88 lbs., 135.00 to 141.00 (140.51); 92 to 99 lbs., 134.00 to 139.00 (135.46); 106 to 109 lbs., 132.50 to 133.00 (132.73); 111 to 112 lbs., 127.00 to 139.00 (135.95). Small and medium frame 1 to 2, 51 to 58 lbs., 157.00 to 159.00 (158.02). Large frame 1 to 2, 121 to 122 lbs., 123.00 to 130.00 (123.75).
