A friend of mine just texted me and he was at a cattle auction. He said the auctioneers just sold Helen. So, me, being the concerned cowboy I am, I had to ask, did he sell his wife also named Helen or the cow? He said no, it was the cow. You never know till you ask.

I just took in four bulls and turned them out to breed with quite a few heifers. The bulls have been on hay in a lot where nothing was green. However, where I took these four bulls it is on improved irrigated grass that is very green. I guess I should ask the female readers of this article is this a guy thing if they are hungry? Cause not one of the bulls looked at these heifers instead they had their head down eating. I’m just trying to learn.
It shows we have a chance for moisture this Friday and Saturday. One day shows possibly a quarter of an inch and another maybe half of an inch. I hope so and hopefully over a big area. What a difference it could make.
I was talking to a friend of mine who got mad at a local cattle auction a year ago. Then he called me and said after looking at Facebook he didn’t like what another cattle auction had posted. I told him before long you are going to be taking your cattle to Nebraska to sell them.
A rancher not too far away sold 176 black pairs that were 2 years old and mostly calved in December. They had been on wheat so they looked good. They averaged $5,100. A year ago I would have thought a $4,000 young pair was way too high. But now you are only trading that young cow and her calf for two steers that weigh 500 pounds. And it doesn’t take long to get that small calf off the cow to bring $2,000. So I guess I don’t know what is too high. But I can tell you in a few years.
I would like to thank whoever told my Mom that “WTF” means “Wow that’s fantastic”. Her texts are so much more fun to read now.
What are the pros and cons of making kids? The pros are making them. The cons are the kids.
The boss just called me today and said, “Hey we are short staffed today.” So I suggested that he hire taller people. Today is my day off.
