Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,262 head selling on Sept. 13, compared to 1,192 head a week ago and 2,123 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pound were selling steady, feeder steers over 600 pounds were selling firm to $2 higher, feeder heifers over 600 pounds were selling steady. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 lower. Receipts on offer included several packages of attractive new crop calves and several loads of feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds. Trade was active. Demand was good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 400- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 12%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 88%. The feeder supply included 58% steers and 42% heifers. Nearly 56% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
