West Plains Regional cattle sales report

The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,313 head selling on Sept. 18, compared to 3,712 head a week ago and 4,449 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 400 pounds were trading $2 to $3 lower with heavier weights selling steady to $5 higher. Yearlings were selling $2 to $3 higher in a well tested market. Demand was good on a moderate supply. There was continued good demand for 5 and 6 weight calves but less demand for peewee calves. Several large drafts of 7 and 8 weights were in the offering and had no difficulty finding a new home. The feeder cattle supply included 57% Steers, 0% dairy steers, 38% heifers and 5% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 46%.
