Philip Livestock Auction report
The Philip Livestock Auction, Philip, South Dakota, reported receipts of 1,545 head selling on Sept. 25, compared to 2,383 head Sept. 11 and 3,477 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
There was no feeder cattle sale a week ago, so comparisons were made to the Sept. 11 sale. Feeder steers were not well compared. Feeder heifers 750 to 800 pounds were selling steady, 800 to 950 pounds were selling $1 to $2 higher, 950 to 1050 pounds were trading $6 higher. There was good demand for several load lots of spring calves and many packages of tested open heifers that sold on an active market. The offering included 73% of receipts were feeder cattle, balance was slaughter cows and bulls. The feeder cattle offering included 42% steers, 58% heifers and 68% over 600 pounds.
