Springfield Livestock market report
The Springfield Livestock Marketing Center, Springfield, Missouri, reported receipts of 1,520 head selling on Oct. 10, compared to 1,365 head a week ago and 2,361 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling $8 to $13 lower, heifer calves were selling $5 to $8 lower, yearlings were not well tested. Holsteins compared to the Sept. 26 sale, were selling $6 to $10 lower. Demand and supply was moderate to light. Calf demand has rapidly decreased as heavy rainfall in some areas and wide temperature ranges has dampened buyers’ spirits. The feeder cattle supply included 40% steers, 13% dairy steers, 38% heifers and 9% bulls. The feeder cattle supply over 600 pounds was 28%.
