NASS reports sorghum conditions
According to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, for the week ending Oct. 21 sorghum conditions were as follows in the Midwest Ag/High Plains Journal coverage area:
Nebraska: Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 2 poor, 16 fair, 58 good, and 23 excellent. Sorghum harvested was 43 percent, ahead of 32 last year, and near 42 average.
Kansas: Sorghum condition rated 2 percent very poor, 5 poor, 24 fair, 54 good, and 15 excellent. Sorghum mature was 88 percent, near 85 last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 23 percent, near 22 last year, but behind 40 average. Oklahoma: Sorghum mature reached 78 percent, down 14 points from the previous year. Sorghum harvested reached 50 percent, down 3 points from the previous year.
South Dakota: Sorghum condition rated 1 percent very poor, 3 poor, 22 fair, 73 good, and 1 excellent. Sorghum coloring was 95 percent, near 98 last year and 99 average. Mature was 90 percent, ahead of 75 last year, and equal to average. Harvested was 25 percent, ahead of 19 last year, but well behind 45 average.
Missouri: Sorghum matured reached 95 percent and sorghum harvested progressed to 62 percent this week.
