McAlester Union Livestock Auction report
The McAlester Union Livestock Auction, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 2,200 head selling on Nov. 13, compared to 1,600 head a week ago and 3,100 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Compared to a week ago, steer calves were selling $1 to $4 higher. Heifer calves under 500 pounds were selling $1 to $5 lower, over 500 pounds were selling $6 to $9 higher. Demand was good. Quality was attractive with a large number of pre-conditioned calves. The supply included 25% over 600 pounds with 47% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $2 lower, except Breaker cows that were selling $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. Packer demand continues light to moderate. A total of 225 cows and bulls sold with 57% going to packers. The Union livestock will be closed next week for the holiday.
