Agricultural tour, workshop for military veterans, others in Williamson County

Texas AgrAbility and the Battleground to Breaking Ground Project of the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will host a farm tour and ag business workshop for military veterans and others interested in starting an agricultural business.

“The tour and workshop are primarily designed for active duty military and military veterans, but are also for individuals with disabilities, beginning farmers and ranchers, and anyone else wanting to start or expand an ag business,” said Erin Kimbrough, AgriLife Extension program specialist, family and community health, College Station.

The farm tour/networking event is free and sponsored by Farm Credit Bank of Texas. The workshop is also free, with the bank providing lunch.

The farm tour/networking event will be from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 30 at Stiles Farm Foundation, 5700 Farm-to-Market 1063 in Thrall.

The Stiles Farm Foundation is managed by AgriLife Extension as a living demonstration ground for research-based, profitable and environmentally sustainable agricultural practices for the Texas Blackland Prairie.

“Tyler Coufal, AgriLife Extension agent for agriculture and natural resources for Williamson County, will provide some hands-on learning activities and a tour of the Stiles Farm,” Kimbrough said.

She said those attending this event will be able to choose what topics they prefer when registering, including parasite management and soils, cattle handling and working, and animal health and nutrition.

The Battleground to Breaking Ground agricultural workshop will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 1 at the Williamson County EMS North Training Room, 3189 S.E. Inner Loop in Georgetown.  

Workshop sessions will include agriculture business startup, business plan development, possibilities for farming or ranching with a disability, financial funding sources, marketing resources and resources to support agricultural business operations.
