Salina livestock auction report
The Farmers and Ranchers Livestock Commission Co., Salina, Kansas, reported receipts of 2,728 head selling on Dec. 20, compared to 3,552 head a week ago and 2,581 head last year, according to the USDA-Kansas Department of Agriculture Market News, Dodge City, Kansas.
Compared to a week ago, steers 800 to 950 pounds were selling $1 to $2 lower. In 800 pounds and under a higher undertone was noted, with some instances selling $2 to $4 higher. Heifers 300 to 1100 pounds were selling steady to $5 higher. Trade and demand was moderate. The feeder supply was 70% steers and 30% heifers, with 81% 600 pounds and over. This is the last sale of 2018. The next sale will be Jan. 3, 2019.
