Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,051 head selling Dec. 20, compared to 2,058 head a week ago, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves were selling firm. Feeder steers and heifers were selling steady, with a few instances selling $1 higher. Supplies on offer were mostly long weaned steer and heifer calves with a few loads of feeder steers and heifers off winter wheat. Slaughter cows were selling $1 to $2 lower. Slaughter bulls were not well tested. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 775-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 40%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1%, and feeders 60%. The feeder supply included 59% steers and 41% heifers. Nearly 58% of the run weighed over 600 pounds. Dalhart livestock will be closed for the holidays. The next sale will be held Jan. 3, 2019.
