Hay trade mixed

In Nebraska, compared to last week all reported forages sold steady. Demand was moderate, instances good in some areas of the state, according to the USDA Market News Service, May 10. Prices are given on a per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.

Eastern/Central—Good alfalfa, large squares, $150-$165. Premium grass, large rounds, $100-$110; good, large rounds, $85-$95; fair, large rounds, $60-$75; premium, small squares, $160-$170. Cornstalks, large rounds, $52.50. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein or better, $270.

Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110-$120. Cornstalks, large rounds, $65. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $140-$160. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $130-$145. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $95-$110.

Western—Good alfalfa, large squares, $160; fair, large squares, $140; good, large rounds, $130-$140. Straw, large squares, $80; ground and delivered alfalfa, $153-$158. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $255.

In South Dakota, hay prices steady with very few reported sales this week.

East River—Premium alfalfa, large squares, $200-$210; good, large squares, $180-$190; fair, large squares, $150-$160; large rounds, $140-$165; utility, large rounds, $115-$128. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $235; 17 % protein, $245. Alfalfa meal, 17% protein, $250. Good grass, large rounds, $150. Good alfalfa/grass mix, large rounds, $150-$175. Straw, large rounds, $110; large squares, $150. Corn stalks, no reported sales.

West River—no reported sales.

In Iowa, hay and straw were more available this past week in the state, but the majority of it was lower quality.

Supreme alfalfa, small squares, $260-$300; premium, large squares, $260-$270; good, large squares, $185-$200, large rounds, $165-$200. Premium alfalfa/grass, small squares,$26; large squares, $265; good, large rounds, $125; premium grass, large squares, $280; good, small squares, $215; large squares, $210-$220; large rounds, $195-$210; fair, large rounds, $100-$130; utility, large rounds, $75-$110. Corn stalks, large rounds, $20-$30. Oat straw, small squares, $220-$240; large round, $80-$85. Rye, large rounds, $57.

Wheat, small squares, $280.

In Wyoming, compared to last week all forages sold steady. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets and alfalfa hay cubes sold steady.

Eastern—Good alfalfa, large squares, $150-$160; good, large rounds, $130-$140. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $255.

Central/western— Premium alfalfa, small squares, $200-$215; good, small squares, $165. Straw, large squares, $50-$60. Certified weed seed free alfalfa cubes, bulk, $230-$240, bagged, $270-$280.

In Colorado, due to typical light seasonal trade activity, reporting of this market will resume when activity warrants. Coverage will resume typically early June to mid-June 2019.

In Missouri, the supply of hay is light, demand is light and prices are steady.

Supreme alfalfa, RFV <185, $200-$250, small squares, $7-$10/bale; premium, RFV 170-180, $175-$200; good, RFV 150-170, $120-$160, small squares, $5-$7/bale; fair, RFV 130-150, $100-$120. Good mixed grass hay, $100-$150, small squares, $5-$8/bale; fair/good quality mixed grass hay, $75-$125; small squares, $4-$6/bale; fair mixed grass, $40-$75 per large round bale. Good brome grass, $120-$150; fair/good, $60-$100. Wheat straw, small squares, $3-$6/bale.

In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade remains at a standstill as rains continue to hold up alfalfa and wheat baling. A few sales were confirmed but no market has yet been established. Demand for first cutting moderate to good.

Central—New crop alfalfa with rain damage, $175. Old crop grass hay, no sales confirmed.

Eastern—No recent alfalfa sales confirmed. Mixed grass hay, 4 x 5 bales, $55-$65/bale.

Western— Premium, new crop quality alfalfa, three loads, $200. Good mixed grass, in rounds, $90-$110. Mixed grass, 5 x 5 1/2 to 5 x 6 bales, $55-$70/bale.

In Texas, alfalfa sold steady to 5 lower. Other hay classes remained unchanged. Trade activity was light to moderate on moderate demand depending on the types of hay coming onto the market.

Panhandle/High Plains—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, delivered, $265-$275; good/premium, $250-$265, small bales,delivered, $297-$330, $9-$10/bale. Ground alfalfa, delivered to feedlots, $215-$225.; calf, $230-$235. Good/premium coastal bermuda, large bales, delivered, $205-$240; small bales, delivered, $360 or $11/bale. Wheat, large bales, delivered, $145-$160. Rye, large bales, delivered, $150. CRP, ground, delivered, $85-$90.

Far West Texas/Trans Pecos—Premium/supreme alfalfa, small squares, delivered local or FOB, $330-$360, $10-$11/bale, large squares, FOB, $275-$280.

North/central/east— Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, delivered, $290-$310. Good/premium coastal bermuda, small squares, FOB, $297-$330, $9-$10/bale, large rounds, FOB, $140-$200, $70-$100/roll; fair/good, $120-$140, $60-$70/bale.

South Texas—Good/premium coastal bermuda, small squares, FOB, $264-$297, $8-$9/bale, large rounds, FOB and delivered locally, $100-$120, $50-$60/roll; fair/good, $165-$264, $5-$8/bale.

In New Mexico, compared to last week, alfalfa hay prices steady. Trade moderate to active, demand good. Southeastern areas have started the first cutting.

Eastern—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, $265-$295; good, delivered, $240-$250. Baled wheat hay, delivered from out of state, $180-$190.

Southeast— Premium/supreme alfalfa, in small bales, loaded on truck, $300.

South/southwest—Premium/supreme alfalfa, large squares, $200-$250; good, delivered to dairies, $185-$200, small squares, $9-$11/bale FOB. Wheat hay, large bales, $200. Oat hay, $170-$180.

In Minnesota, prices were generally steayd.

Supreme alfalfa, small squares, $205, large rounds, $200; premium, large rounds, $170-$195; good, large rounds, $150; fair, large rounds, $140; utility, large rounds, $85-$105.
