Most hay classes sell steady

In Nebraska, alfalfa hay fully steady. Grass hay steady. Ground and delivered forages steady. Demand was good, especially the last couple of days before the second round of the bomb cyclone that made its way across the state according to the USDA Market News Service, April 12. Prices given on per-ton basis, unless otherwise noted.

Eastern/central—Premium alfalfa, large rounds, $125; good, large rounds, $110. Good/premium alfalfa/orchard mix, large squares, $165-$175. Premium grass hay, large rounds, $100-$110, small squares, $160-$170; good, large rounds, $85-$95; fair, large rounds, $60-$75. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein or better, $270.

Platte Valley—Good alfalfa, large rounds, $110-$115. Cornstalks, round bales, $70-$75 delivered. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $150-$160. Ground and delivered alfalfa-stubble mix, $135-$145. Ground and delivered cornstalks, $110.

Western—Good alfalfa, large squares, $160, large rounds, $130-$140; fair, large squares, $140. Ground and delivered alfalfa, $158. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $245.

In South Dakota, East River and West River areas, very few reported hay sales this week as a severe winter storm moved through the region. Large amounts of wind driven snow and heavy amounts of ice made travel impossible as interstate highways were closed across the state.

East River—Good alfalfa, large squares, $180-$200; fair, large squares, $150, large rounds, $140; utility, large rounds, $115. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $230, 17% protein $240. West River—Premium alfalfa, no reported sales. Grass, no reported sales. Alfalfa grass mix, no reported sales.

In Iowa, all hay classes traded steady.

Rock Valley—Premium alfalfa, large rounds, $175-$192.50; good, large rounds, $140-$162.50; fair, large squares, $135, large rounds, $130-$137.50. Premium grass, large rounds, $160-$162.50; fair, large squares, $125, large rounds, $122.50-$127.50. Alfalfa grass mix, scarce. Straw, large rounds, $100. Cornstalks, large rounds, $47.50-$52.50.

In Wyoming, all baled hay sold steady. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets and alfalfa hay cubes sold steady.

Eastern Wyoming-Good alfalfa, large squares, $150-$160, good, large rounds, $130-$140. Sun-cured alfalfa pellets, 15% protein, $255.

Central/western Wyoming-Premium alfalfa, small squares, $200-$215; fair, large squares, $130. Fair/good grass, large squares, $125. Straw, large squares, $50-$60. Certified weed seed free alfalfa cubes bulk, $230-$240, bagged $280.

In Colorado, hay trade mostly inactive on light demand.

Northeast—Good alfalfa, large squares, $191, delivered. No reported quotes for all other classes of hay.

Southeast—Good/premium, medium squares, $240-$250, retail/stable; premium, small squares, $269, retail/stable. No reported quotes for other classes of hay.

San Luis Valley—No reported quotes from all other classes of hay.

In Missouri, the supply of hay is light, demand is moderate and prices are steady.

Supreme alfalfa, RFV 185 $200-$250, small squares, $7-$10/bale; premium, RFV 170-180, $175-$200; good, RFV 150-170 $120-$160, small squares $5-$7/bale; fair, RFV 130-150, $100-$120. In Oklahoma, alfalfa trade light on light to moderate demand. Supplies are generally light. Movement light to moderate.

Eastern—Alfalfa, no recent sales confirmed. Good bermuda grass 5 x 6 bales, $60-$70/bale, few loads bermuda grass delivered, $180/ton. Teff grass 5 x 6 bales, $100/bale. Mixed grass hay, 4 x 5 bales, $55-$65.

Western—Premium alfalfa, large square bales, $200-$210; good, large rounds and squares, $180. Grinding hay, no test. Good hay grazer, $100/ton. Good mixed grass, rounds, $90-$110/ton. Mixed grass, 5 x 5 1/2 to 5 x 6 bales, $55-$70/bale. Good bluestem hay delivered 5 x 5 1/2, $75-$80/bale.

In Texas, alfalfa sold steady to $5.00 lower as sellers dropped prices to get hay out of the barns and ready for new crop. All other hay classes remained steady. Trade activity was light on moderate demand as the wait for new crop continues.
