Arkansas weekly livestock auction summary

The weekly weighted average summary for Arkansas livestock auctions indicated 3,878 head of cattle selling the week of May 23, compared to 8,115 a week ago, according to the USDA to Arkansas Department of Ag Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, the steers and bulls were selling mixed throughout the week and settling mostly $3 to $5 lower. The heifers were trading unevenly steady for the week. The slaughter cows were unevenly steady. Slaughter bulls were selling $2 to $4 lower. The trend was on limited comparable sales when compared to a week ago. The supply included 77% feeder cattle with 33% steers, 0% were dairy steers, 42% were heifers and 24% were bulls; 18% was slaughter cattle with 85% cows and 15% were bulls; and 6% was replacement cattle with 8% stock cows, 54% were bred cows and 38% were cow-calf pairs. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 19%.
