Clovis cattle auction report

The Clovis Livestock Auction, Clovis, New Mexico, reported 1,758 head of cattle selling compared to 1,265 head a week ago and 1,565 a year ago, according to the USDA-New Mexico Department of Agriculture Market News, Portales, New Mexico.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers weighing under 600 pounds were selling $4 to $5 lower except those at 300 to 450 pounds that were selling $2 higher, those 600 to 700 pounds were trading $2 higher and those over 700 pounds were selling $1 lower. Heifers under 600 pounds were mostly selling $5 lower and those over 600 pounds were trading $1 lower. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 lower. Trade and demand were moderate. The supply included 77% feeder cattle with 63% steers, 36% were heifers and 1% were bulls; 9% was slaughter cattle with 64% cows and 36% were bulls; and 13% was replacement cattle with 58% bred cows 2% were bred heifers and 41% were cow-calf pairs. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 61%.
