Read Philippians 4:10-13 I can do all things through [Christ] who gives me strength.—Philippians 4:13 (NIV)
I find driving our motor home extremely scary. I worry that I will misjudge the size of the vehicle while driving around roundabouts, along narrow roads, and in congested areas. However, I still drive the vehicle, both to share the driving with my husband and so that I know how to drive it in case of an emergency. Each time I do it, I pray, “Lord, I can’t do this. Will you please drive in my place?” After this prayer, I don’t drive perfectly or feel totally calm, but I sense God’s presence—and that God is enabling me to do what I cannot do in my own strength. I still make mistakes while driving but I learn from them and hopefully will become a better driver.
I think this is one of the ways God enables me to grow in my faith. Jesus compared the kingdom of God to a tiny mustard seed that was planted and grew into a tree so big that birds could perch in its branches. See Matthew 13:31-35. Perhaps challenging situations help us grow by strengthening our faith and helping us to trust in God. As I grow in faith, I see more of my prayers answered, and so God’s kingdom grows.
Prayer: Dear God, help our faith grow through all the challenges we face today. Thank you for your unfailing presence. Amen.
Thought for the day: Prayer connects me to God’s guiding presence.
