The planted acres for cotton are expected to reach 10.67 million acres, according to the most recent World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimate.
The projection is a slight increase from the 2023-24 estimate of 10.23 million acres; however, the report notes that about 9.13 million acres will be harvested this year compared to only 6.44 million a year ago.
In 2022-23, cotton farmers planted 13.75 million acres and harvested 7.29 million acres.
The report for 2024-25 indicates there will be about 2.4 million 480-pound bales.
The average price is projected at 75 cents per pound for upland cotton. That is about 2.8 cents lower than for 2023-24 and about 10 cents per pound lower than in 2022-23.
Harvested acres are projected on a 10-year average abandonment by region with the Southwest adjusted to reflect moisture conditions. Yield is based on a 5-year average by region.
