Fires in Wyoming, Montana burn nearly half million acres

The Remington Fire started Aug. 22 in Sheridan County, Wyoming, and quickly moved into multiple counties in southeast Montana.  

The fire has impacted Sheridan County, Wyoming, and Powder River, Big Horn, and Rosebud counties in Montana. Other populations at risk from the fire include those in the southeastern portion of the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation and the communities of Quietus, Otter, and Birney. The fire has also burned into the Custer National Forest. 

Acres burned in the two states include Flat Rock, 52,421 acres, 97% contained; Remington, 196,368 acres, 88% contained; Constitution, 24,630 acres, 95% contained; House Draw, 174,547 acres, 94% contained; and Silver Spoon, 1,721 acres, 92% contained. as of Sept. 6. 

Nine crews with 24 engines, 14 water tenders have been working to contain the fires. according to inciweb.wildfire.gov
