Research to Application: Improving nutrition and mitigating risk in the swine industry
Kansas State University officials will highlight several research updates during the annual K-State Swine Day planned for Thursday, Nov. 21.
“Swine Day is a culmination of timely swine research conducted at K-State within the last year including the latest information on nutrition, management practices, feed processing, pig livability and other industry issues,” said Mike Tokach, a University Distinguished Professor in K-State’s Department of Animal Sciences and Industry.
“The opportunities to interact with a cross section of producers, allied industry and students attracts swine enthusiasts from across the state and country to K-State for take-home information.”
The 2024 Swine Day will kick off with a technology trade show featuring more than 30 vendors. The trade show opens at 8 a.m. at the K-State Alumni Center, 1720 Anderson Avenue in Manhattan.
The morning session includes a welcome from department head Mike Day and an update on K-State’s Agricultural Innovation Initiative. For the remainder of the morning session, K-State swine faculty and graduate students will discuss the latest updates on K-State Applied Swine Nutrition Research, highlighting nutrition, management, feed processing and feed safety.
The afternoon program will feature Kyle Coble, director of nutritional services, and PJ Corns, Breed to Wean technical director, of JBS Live Pork with a presentation titled “Creating Opportunities in a Large Production System.” A brief question-and-answer session will follow.
The Swine Day program begins at 9:15 a.m. and includes lunch. The day wraps up with a reception at 3:30 p.m. featuring K-State Call Hall Ice Cream.
The fee to register for Swine Day is $25 per person if paid by Nov.13, and $50 after that date or at the door. K-State students may attend free of charge if they register by Nov.13.
