Solvet, of Alberta, Canada, the maker of Lidoband that addresses the pain and discomfort associated with band castration in calves up to 250 pounds, expands the product line to provide lasting lidocaine effects for calves up to 1,000 pounds starting this spring.

Lidoband contains the weight-appropriate dosage of lidocaine and a skin permeation enhancer that allows the anesthetic to seep from the band into a calf’s tissue. Lidoband delivers lidocaine into scrotal tissues in as fast as two hours and for up to 42 days. This approach avoids surgery or injections and decreases processing times and handling costs for producers.

Lidoband will be available in four sizes this spring:

  • Lidoband – up to 250 pounds
  • Lidoband Tri – 200 pounds to 400 pounds
  • Lidoband SL – 250 pounds to 750 pounds
  • Lidoband XL – 300 pounds to 1,000 pounds

“This is an exciting time for North American beef and dairy producers,” Solvet CEO Lionel Gibbs said. “Bloodless calf castration without knives or injections that is easy to use is now available as a management tool for all segments of the beef and dairy industries. The reduced time and handling costs using Lidoband compared to conventional castration will quickly show in the bottom line of any size operation.”
