Janel: Corn from Texas to North Dakota
Western Nebraska – I have always loved the wheat harvest but it’s not great this year. Not only has the weather been an issue but there’s so much corn planted from Texas to the Canadian border. That’s a huge disappointment for a wheat harvester.
We have five combines here cutting wheat and four on the road moving north. The yields have been decent. The fields are soft due to the recent rainfall. There have been several mud holes. There are also fields that have been taken over by sawfly damage and mosaic disease. It’s a terrible sight. I’d like to find more work here but there’s not much wheat in the area anymore. It used to be wheat country now it’s full of fall crops.
We’ve had a few cooler days with some moisture and high humidity. Hopefully, we can get back in the fields and get the wheat cut before the weeds get worse. Our forecast is sunny with highs in the 90s.
