Canola pre-plant meeting set for Aug. 26 near Hutchinson
K-State’s Stamm says research results, planting tips key agenda
A Kansas State University canola expert says ‘encouraging’ results of the past year’s harvest bodes well for the state’s producers in the future.
“We see winter canola as a viable rotation crop for Kansas farmers, so it is important to set the stage for their success,” said Mike Stamm, a canola breeder in K-State’s Department of Agronomy. “We are encouraged by the results we saw last season and we look forward to testing more new products in 2025-2026.”
Stamm said the university will host a winter canola pre-plant meeting on Tuesday, Aug. 26 to help Kansas farmers plan for the coming year. The meeting is free and will be held at the Dillons Nature Center, 3002 E. 30th Ave., near Hutchinson.
The meeting will start at 10:30 am with a catered lunch to follow.
Stamm said topics for the day include a wrap up of the 2025 winter canola season, variety trial results and selection, planting tips, and marketing.
The meeting is sponsored by K-State Extension, the Great Plains Canola Association, and Scoular. RSVP by contacting the Reno County Extension Office at 620-662-2371, or email [email protected].
