Secretary Rollins outlines Milk Action Plan for dairymen

On Nov. 11, Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins attended the National Milk Producers Federation’s annual meeting in Arlington, Texas. She gave the keynote address at the event, and discussed the Trump administration’s Milk Action Plan, which was designed to support American dairy farmers.

“I want to be very clear. We will never stop fighting for those of you in the dairy industry and across rural America we have reached that golden age for our producers,” Rollins said. “Dairy farmers have delivered for America for 250 years, and now it’s time for us to deliver for you.”

During her speech, Rollins outlined four points of the Milk Action Plan, which included incentivizing dairy consumption through changes to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, expected in December or early January; working to lower input costs; facilitating investments in American milk processing; and expanding markets to help milk producers prosper.

In addition to the Milk Action Plan, Rollins also addressed farm labor issues that have become challenging for the dairy industry. She vowed to seek federal changes to rules and regulations with the departments of Labor and Homeland Security to improve the outlook for the dairy industry going forward.

“We are acutely aware of the unique labor needs of the dairy industry,” she said.
