Bushel launches mobile check deposit for farm payments

Bushel has introduced a mobile check deposit feature designed to help farmers process large paper checks using their smartphones.

The Fargo, North Dakota-based agricultural software and digital payments provider said the tool allows users to deposit checks, including high-value grain settlement payments, through the Bushel Farm app.

Farmers continue to rely heavily on paper checks, with 77% reporting they are still paid that way, according to Bushel’s 2025 State of the Farm Survey. Depositing those checks often requires travel to a bank branch or navigating limits on mobile deposit amounts.

Greg Sagedahl, director of fintech at Bushel and a farmer in north-central Minnesota, said the feature is intended to simplify that process. He noted that taking a photo to deposit a check can reduce delays in accessing funds for operating expenses.

The mobile deposit feature is part of the Bushel Business Account, offered by The Bancorp Bank, N.A. Deposited funds begin earning interest immediately and are insured through a sweep network program, according to the company. A linked debit card allows users to access deposited funds for purchases without visiting a bank.

Tony Morosini, chief payments officer at Bushel, said farm payments are often larger than what standard mobile deposit tools are built to handle, creating challenges for producers managing cash flow.

Once funds are deposited, farmers can use them for expenses such as fuel, supplies and parts, or transfer money between linked external accounts within the platform.
