Great Plains introduces Ultra-Chisel for vertical tillage
Great Plains Ag, Salina, Kansas, has unveiled the next generation of its proven vertical tillage lineup, the VT1200 Ultra-Chisel — an implement designed to help producers better manage tough residue, reduce compaction and prepare fields more efficiently after harvest.
Building on the original Ultra-Chisel launched in 2014, the new VT1200 brings updated performance and simplified operation to a product line that has helped Great Plains Ag lead the vertical tillage segment for more than 25 years. The implement operates at depths up to 8 inches to tackle chemical-resistant weeds, mix residue, destroy density layers and wheel-track compaction, encourage deeper root development and improve water infiltration.
Available in seven models with working widths from 24 to 46 feet, the VT1200 is built for primary tillage applications across the High Plains, Corn Belt and Central Plains. Five three-section models and two five-section models give producers options to match their acreage, residue conditions, field requirements and tractor horsepower.
“The VT1200 Ultra-Chisel gives producers a powerful, flexible tool for managing post-harvest residue and compaction in a single field pass,” said Tony Wisker, vice president of sales. “With its updated frame, depth-control features and attachment options, the VT1200 helps operators work more efficiently while delivering consistent tillage performance.”
The VT1200’s floating hitch and patented rocking bolster system are standard on all sizes, and its center-compensating design keeps all four sets of center-frame tires firmly on the ground in uneven terrain. This enables the VT1200 to closely follow field contours, maintain consistent depth control and operate at speeds up to 7.5 mph.
Additional features include heavy-duty spring-loaded chisel shanks with 900 pounds of trip force, 30 inches of underframe clearance to improve residue flow and single-point depth control for easier adjustment across the machine’s width. Producers can choose 12-inch standard shank spacing or 9-inch spacing on select 24- and 30-foot models, along with 2-inch straight or 7-inch winged vertical tillage chisel points to match field conditions and tillage goals.
The VT1200 also simplifies hydraulic operation by eliminating electric-over-hydraulic controls, reducing complexity while helping operators prepare a level, single-pass-ready finish ahead of planting.
