The National Western Stock Show, Denver, Colorado, has named Larry A. Mizel as the 2027 Citizen of the West. This annual honor recognizes individuals who have made a lasting impact on their communities while embodying the values and spirit of the West.
An entrepreneur, business leader and longtime advocate for Colorado communities, Mizel has spent decades building businesses and supporting the people and organizations around him. In 1967, he founded what would become M.D.C. Holdings, helping grow the company into one of the nation’s largest homebuilders.
Mizel will be honored as the 48th Citizen of the West on Jan. 11. Proceeds from the annual event support the National Western Scholarship Trust, which awards nearly $800,000 each year to 120 students pursuing studies in agricultural science, rural medicine and veterinary medicine.
