Ft. Smith livestock auction report

The Ft. Smith Stockyards, Ft. Smith, Arkansas, reported receipts of 2,312 head selling on April 30, compared to 1,573 head a week ago and 1,021 head last year, according to the University of Arkansas Department of Agriculture Extension Service-USDA Market News, Little Rock, Arkansas.

Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling mostly steady, with several groups of weaned cattle and thin fleshed suitable for grazing cattle were selling with an added premium of $3 to $10. Those with too much flesh and plainer offerings were selling with a $4 to $10 discount. Slaughter cows were selling $3 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling steady. The supply included 1422 feeder calves, 512 feeder yearlings, 153 replacement cows, 187 slaughter cows, 35 slaughter bulls and 3 replacement bulls. The feeder supply included 45% steers, 47% heifers and 8% bulls. Nearly 27% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
