McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,700 head selling on July 31, compared to 1,350 head a week ago and 1,500 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 500 pounds were selling $2 lower, over 500 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher. Heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling $2 to $4 lower, over 600 pounds were trading $4 to $6 higher. Quality was average through attractive. Demand was good. The supply included 19% over 600 pounds with 37% heifers. Slaughter cows were trading steady to $2 higher. Slaughter bulls were selling $1 lower. A total of 350 cows and bulls sold with 68% going to packers.
