McAlester livestock market report

The McAlester Union Livestock Market, McAlester, Oklahoma, reported receipts of 1,100 head selling on March 6, compared to 900 head a week ago and 1,325 head last year, according to the USDA-Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Market News, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves under 450 pounds were selling $2 to $5 lower, over 450 pounds were selling $3 to $9 higher. Heifer calves were selling uneven in all classes, but mostly $2 to $5 higher. Quality was attractive, few average. Demand was good. The supply included 14% over 600 pounds, with 47% heifers. Slaughter cows were selling $3 to $8 higher, except Breaker cows were selling $1 lower. Slaughter bulls were selling $2 higher. Packer demand was good. A total of 170 cows and bulls sold with 67% going to packers.
