Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,135 head selling on April 5, compared to 1,475 head a week ago and 1,338 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were trading firm, instances of thin kinds were selling $3 to $4 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling steady except 600 to 700 pound steers were selling $2 lower in a light test. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $1 higher. Trade was fairly active. Demand fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 850-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 33%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 67%. The feeder supply included 55% steers and 45% heifers. Nearly 65% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
