Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,349 head selling on Feb. 8, compared to 2,672 head a week ago and 1,168 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling steady, 600 to 900 pounds feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to $1 lower, instances $2 lower, three loads steers over 900 pounds were selling $2 to $3 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady to $2 higher. Trade was fairly active. Demand fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 925-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 8%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 92%. The feeder supply included 57% steers and 43% heifers, nearly 68% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
