Dalhart livestock auction report

The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,747 head on Jan. 11, compared to 1,695 head last week and 2,283 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.

Compared to a week ago, the steer calves weighing under 500 pounds were steady to weak and the heifer calves under 500 pounds were selling $5 to $7 lower. The feeder steers and heifers from 500 to 800 pounds were selling $5 to $7 lower and those over 800 pounds were selling $3 to $5 lower. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. The trade was fairly active. The demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 250- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. The slaughter cows made up 18% of the supply, the slaughter bulls were less than 1%, the replacement cows were less than 1%, and feeders were 82%. The feeder supply included 48% steers and 52% was heifers with nearly 71% of the run weighing over 600 pounds.
