Hub City Livestock Auction report
The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,250 head selling on Sept. 26, compared to 1,392 head a week ago and 2,974 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, steers 900 to 950 pounds and heifers 800 to 850 pounds and 900 to 950 pounds were selling $1 to $2 higher with other weight classes not well compared for an accurate trend. There was a much larger offering than a week ago with many strings, loads and packages of yearling cattle and several packages of spring calves. Yearling cattle coming off grass and out of feed yards, flesh on these cattle was mostly moderate to moderate plus with some heavy flesh and fill at times. Good to very good demand for these average to attractive quality yearlings. Spring calves offered were similar to last week, with mixed weaning status and pre to conditioning. Demand for calves was just moderate. An active market with many buyers present, often taking multiple loads when offered. Steers made up 30% of the feeder supply, heifers 70%, 95% over 600 pounds.
