Aberdeen livestock auction report

The Hub City Livestock Auction, Aberdeen, South Dakota, reported receipts of 3,920 head selling on Oct. 24, compared to 5,210 head a week ago and 5,756 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Compared to a week ago, steer calves 450 to 550 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher, 551 to 600 pounds were selling mostly steady, 601 to 700 pounds were selling $5 lower with instances selling $9 lower, 850 to 900 pounds were selling $1 to $2 lower, 901 to 1000 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher. Heifer calves 450 to 500 pounds were selling $3 to $4 higher, 501 to 550 pounds were selling mostly steady, other weight classes of heifers were not well compared. Good to very good demand for yearling offerings with best demand seen for a string of attractive no implant steers off grass. Steers made up 69% of the feeder supply, heifers 30%, 69% over 600 pounds.
