Cash bids mixed for grains, beans
Compared to Oct. 22, cash bids for wheat, corn, and soybeans were mixed, while sorghum was higher, according to the National Grain Market Summary, Oct. 23.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture said 49 percent of corn was harvested, near its five-year average pace, but efforts were notably behind in Iowa where just 29 percent of the crop was in. 53 percent of soybeans were harvested as of Oct. 21, down from the five-year average of 69 percent for this time of year. Iowa remains a concern with only 37 percent of soybeans harvested versus the usual pace of 71 percent by now. 72 percent of the winter wheat crop is now in the ground, down from a five-year average of 77 percent for this time of year. In Kansas, 67 percent of the crops are in, down from an average pace of 80 percent.
Wheat was from a 1/2 cent lower to 1 cent higher. Corn was from 2 1/4 cents lower to 12 cents higher. Soybeans were from 4 cents lower to 2 cents higher. Sorghum was 1 1/2 cents higher.
In the futures close, Kansas City December wheat was $5.07 1/2, down 1/4 cent.
Terminal wheat bids, paid for truck delivery, included Kansas City, $5.07 1/2, down 1/4 cent; Minneapolis, $5.85, down 1/2 cent; Portland, $6 to $6.25, unchanged; St. Louis, $4.69 to $5.09, up 1 cent.
Terminal corn bids, U.S. No. 2 yellow, price paid for truck deliver, included: Kansas City, $3.45 1/4 to $3.50 1/4, up 3/4 cent; Minneapolis, $3.21 1/4, down 2 1/4 cents; southern Iowa, $3.22 1/4 to $3.31 1/4, up 3/4 cents; Omaha, $3.30 to $3.45, up 2 to 12 cents.
Terminal soybean bids, U.S. No. 1, price paid for truck delivery, included: Kansas City, $8.12 1/2, down 1 cent; Minneapolis, $7.77 1/2, down 2 cents; southern Iowa, $7.82 1/2 to $7.95 1/2, down 1 cent; central Illinois processors, $8.05 1/2 to $8.19 1/2, up 2 to down 4 cents.
Kansas City wheat prices Oct. 23, spot, fob track, included: No. 1 hard red winter wheat, ordinary protein, $5.92 1/2 to $6.07 1/2, down 1/4 cent; 12 percent protein, $6.12 1/2 to $6.27 1/2, up 9 3/4 cents; 13 percent protein, $6.27 1/2 to $6.42 1/2, up 4 3/4 cents; 14 percent protein, $6.37 1/2 to $6.52 1/2, up 4 3/4 cents. U.S. No. 2 soft red winter wheat was unavailable. U.S. No. 2 white corn was unavailable.
