Amarillo livestock auction summary
The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 569 head selling on April 23, compared to 523 head a week ago and 941 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, there were not enough comparable sales of steers or heifers for a market trend. Trade activity and demand were light to moderate. Most of the trading area received some much needed rain that soaked into the parched ground quickly. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling mostly steady. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 7%, 2% were replacements and 91% were feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 78% steers and bulls and 22% heifers. Approximately 26% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
