K-State Research and Extension and Central Kansas District will host a prescribed burn workshop on Feb. 28 at the K-State Polytechnic Conference Center in Salina, Kansas. The workshop will run from 4 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $20 which includes a notebook and meal. Some of the topics that will be covered are reasons for burning, wildlife and prescribed burning, local and state regulations, fire weather, safety, liability, use of burn contractors and planning and conducting a burn. The workshop is designed to prepare the participants to begin using prescribed burning or to update their knowledge and abilities. Several agencies including K-State Research and Extension, NRCS, KDWPT, Saline County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service will assist in conducting the workshop.
