Newell sheep sales report

The St. Onge Newell Sheep Yards, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, reported receipts of 853 head this past week, 256 head last week and 821 head last year, according to the USDA to South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

This was the first sale of the year, therefore no market comparison was made. There was very good demand for several strings and packages of feeder lambs, replacement ewes and slaughter ewes, which were all sold on a strong, active market. The offering consisted of 64% feeder lambs, 13% was replacement ewes 23% was slaughter ewes and bucks.

Slaughter ewes: Good and Choice 2 to 3, 77 head, 171 lbs., 64.00. Good 3 to 4, 9 head, 198 lbs., 61.00. Utility 1 to 2, 145 to 148 lbs., 74.00 to 76.00 (75.69). Cull 1, 13 head, 138 lbs., 64.00.

Feeder lambs: Medium and large frame 1 to 2, 80 to 84 lbs., 180.00 to 184.00 (181.83); 30 head, 95 lbs., 170.00; 108 head, 104 lbs., 159.00 to 164.00 (162.61); 35 head, 109 lbs., 140.00 poor fleeces; 46 head, 110 lbs., 161.00; 189 head, 123 lbs., 153.00. Medium frame 1 to 2, 11 head, 65 lbs., 170.00; 6 head, 84 lbs., 160.00; 25 head, 94 lbs., 160.00. Large frame 1 to 2, 27 head, 119 lbs., 148.00.
