Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Ft. Pierre Livestock Auction, Ft. Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 5,441 head selling on Sept. 28, compared to 927 head Sept. 14 and 9,244 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
The Sept. 14 sale was much lighter in receipts, so while there was no price comparison available, higher undertones prevailed. Very good demand for all classes of yearlings, good to moderate demand for the offering of spring calves. Large run of yearlings with several strings of one owner cattle, lots of packages of tested open heifers in town as well. The offering included 76% over 600 pounds, 58% steers and 41% heifers.
