Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 1,450 head on Jan. 18, compared to 2,747 head last week and 1,895 head last year, according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, the steer and heifer calves weighing under 500 pounds were firm, with instances of heifer calves from 500 to 600 pounds selling $2 to $4 higher. The feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling $3 to $4 higher. The slaughter cows and bulls were selling $1 to $2 higher. The trade was active and the demand was good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. The slaughter cows made up 16% of the stock, the slaughter bulls were less than 1%, the replacement cows were less than 1% and the feeders were 84%. The feeder supply included 59% steers and 41% was heifers with nearly 70% of the run weighing over 600 pounds.
