Fort Pierre Livestock Auction report
The Fort Pierre Livestock Auction, Fort Pierre, South Dakota, reported receipts of 4,330 head selling on Jan. 19, compared to 4,832 head selling a week ago and 6,901 head last year, according to the USDA-South Dakota Department of Agriculture Market News, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Compared to a week ago, the market was stronger. The offering of steers 500 to 550 pound saw the biggest price increase of $10 to $12 higher, 550 to 650 pounds were selling $2 to $5 higher, 650 to 700 pounds were selling mostly $6 to $8 higher, with 700 pounds and heavier selling $2 to $6 higher. Heifers 550 to 600 pounds were selling steady to $2 higher, 600 pounds and heavier were selling $6 to $8 higher. It was an active market with buyers very aggressive at times to get multiple loads of one owner cattle. Several long strings, with plenty of part loads and packages that buyers could make loads of fully preconditioned and long time weaned calves. The cattle offering was 66% steers, 34% heifers and 85% weighing over 600 pounds.
