West Plains regional cattle sales report
The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 3,847 head on Jan. 23, compared to 3,745 head last week and 3,080 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to the last sale of two weeks ago, steer and heifer calves were trading $3 to $9 higher. There were too few yearlings in the previous sale for an adequate comparison; however, undertones were higher. The demand was very good and improved throughout the sale on a moderate supply. The feeder cattle supply included 56% steers, 0% was dairy steers, 42% was heifers and 2% was bulls. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 44%.
