Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary
The Amarillo Livestock Auction Summary, Amarillo, Texas, reported receipts of 817 head selling on Jan. 29, compared to 899 head a week ago and 762 head last year, according to the USDA-Texas Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, feeder steers and heifers were selling steady to $5 lower. Trade activity and demand were moderate. The trading area remains extremely dry and producers starting to sell calves earlier than normal. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling with a higher undertone on a light test from the previous auction. Slaughter cows and bulls made up 5%, 1% were replacements and 94% feeders. The feeder supply consisted of 47% steers and bulls, 53% heifers, nearly 80% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
Steers: Medium and large frame 1, few 371 lbs., 183.00; 450 to 500 lbs., 159.00 to 172.00; few 510 lbs., 166.00; lot 616 lb. calves 153.00; 650 to 700 lbs., 150.00 to 153.00; few 747 lb. calves 136.00; half load 805 lbs., 140.00.
