West Plains regional cattle sales report
The Ozarks Regional Stockyards, West Plains, Missouri, reported receipts of 4,523 head on Jan. 30, compared to 3,847 head last week and 4,219 head last year, according to the USDA-Missouri Department of Agriculture Market News Service, Jefferson City, Missouri.
Compared to a week ago, the steer and heifer calves were trading unevenly from $3 higher to $3 lower with spots at $6 to $7 higher. The yearlings were steady to $3 higher with several small and medium packages in the offering. The demand was very good and improved throughout the day on a heavy supply. The prices were pretty much all over the place as the feeder futures changed throughout the sale. The demand was especially good on 5- and 6-weight calves as buyers know February is starting and they are hoping spring grass will soon be here. The feeder cattle supply included 54% steers, 0% was dairy steers, 44% was heifers, 2% was bulls and 0% was dairy heifers. The feeder cattle supply weighing over 600 pounds was 48%.
