For the month of January, topsoil moisture supplies rated 35 percent very short, 44 short, 19 adequate, and 2 surplus, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Northern Plains Regional Field Office, Kansas. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 22 percent very short, 48 short, 30 adequate, and 0 surplus.
Winter wheat condition rated 10 percent very poor, 34 poor, 42 fair, 13 good, and 1 excellent.
The next monthly report (for February) will be issued Feb. 26. Weekly reports will begin March 5 for the 2018 season.
