Dalhart livestock auction report
The Cattleman’s Livestock Auction, Dalhart, Texas, reported receipts of 2,672 head selling on Feb. 1, compared to 2,827 head a week ago and 1,377 head last year according to the USDA Market News Service, Amarillo, Texas.
Compared to a week ago, steer and heifer calves under 600 pounds were selling firm to $3 higher. Feeder steers and heifers over 600 pounds were selling firm, with instances of heifers over 700 pounds selling $2 higher. Slaughter cows and bulls were selling steady. Trade was fairly active. Demand was fairly good. The bulk of the supply was medium and large frame 1 to 2, 350- to 900-pound feeder steers and heifers. Slaughter cows made up 15%, slaughter bulls less than 1%, replacement cows less than 1% and feeders 85%. The feeder supply included 61% steers and 39% heifers. Nearly 57% of the run weighed over 600 pounds.
